About Our Elite Program

The Elite Division at TCYBA is suited to advanced-level players who wish to further develop their basketball skills in a more competitive atmosphere and are willing to commit to more practice time and a higher level of competition.

If your son or daughter is new to basketball, the Elite tryouts are usually not the best place for them to start their basketball experience. While the emphasis will still be on fun, friendship and sportsmanship, there will be a greater focus on competition and expectations of commitment will be higher for players. While we encourage all young players to be multi-sport athletes and will NOT ask anyone to quit another sport to focus solely on basketball, the Elite Division does expect a commitment to the entire season and a willingness to make all practices and games.

The number of teams participating at each age/gender level will be determined after tryouts and player assessments are complete. The number of teams will be determined by the total number of players who are assessed as being Elite level athletes.

Elite Season & Commitment

The Elite season will begin the week of April 7 and end the week of July 7, pending tournament participation details.

U11 and U16 players practice 2 x 1.5 hours per week, along with weekend games and tournaments (tournaments to be finalized with coach).

U12 to U15 players practice 2 x 2 hours per week, along with weekend games and tournaments (tournaments to be finalized with coach).

The Tri-City Youth Basketball Association (TCYBA) was formed in 1999 and is a volunteer-driven registered not-for-profit that serves the youth of Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, Port Moody (Tri-Cities), New Westminster, Burnaby and surrounding areas in British Columbia, Canada. Currently, we have well over 2000 players, from Kindergarten to grade 12, playing in various divisions including both competitive Elite programs and recreational play. We offer academies, camps, official's development paths and coaching clinics in partnership with various local, provincial and national partners. Open to both boys and girls, the club operates out-of-school gyms across the Tri-City area and strives to ensure all youth that want to enjoy the sport have an opportunity to participate. We believe that youth sport is critical to a child's development and the opportunity to build skills for both the sport and for life should be available to all of our community's youth.
